Restaurant Banquettes & Booths

Banquettes and booths can define the character of a restaurant interior.

They create zones, improve seating capacity and give architects considerable freedom to shape the space. But behind a simple upholstered form is often a relatively complex piece of furniture.

Successful restaurant banquette seating needs to balance aesthetics with ergonomics, durability, cleaning and manufacturing.

1. Start with the space

Banquettes should be developed together with the restaurant layout.

Seat depth, backrest angle, table position and circulation all influence guest comfort.

A visually impressive banquette that creates an uncomfortable seating position can negatively affect the customer experience.

Dimensions should therefore be evaluated as a complete system:

seat + backrest + table + circulation.

2. Construction matters

A commercial banquette may serve thousands of guests over its lifetime.

Its internal structure needs to provide stability while allowing efficient installation and, ideally, future servicing.

Engineering should consider the frame, base, upholstery construction, connections, wall interfaces and installation method.

For larger projects, modular construction can also make transportation and installation considerably easier.

3. Select upholstery for the environment

Colour and texture are important, but they are only part of the decision.

Restaurant upholstery should also be evaluated for durability, cleanability, maintenance and suitability for commercial use.

The right material depends on the concept.

A fine-dining restaurant, high-volume café and hotel breakfast area can require very different solutions.

4. Think about maintenance from the beginning

Spills and damage are inevitable in hospitality environments.

This makes serviceability an important part of good design.

Depending on the construction, selected upholstered panels or other components can be designed so that they are easier to remove, repair or replace without replacing the entire banquette.

This can significantly extend the useful life of the furniture.

5. Bespoke does not have to mean one-off

Banquettes are often individually designed for a particular interior.

However, restaurant groups can standardize important elements such as construction, seat geometry, foam specification, upholstery methods and technical details.

Dimensions and finishes can then adapt to individual locations.

This allows a bespoke architectural language to become more scalable.

From concept to production

ATEPAA® combines joinery, metalwork, sewing and upholstery to manufacture banquettes and other multi-material hospitality furniture.

Bringing these capabilities together allows the complete element to be considered as one engineered product — from internal construction to the final upholstery detail.

Designing restaurant banquettes?

If you are developing banquettes, booths or custom seating, involving the manufacturer early can help resolve construction, materials and installation before production begins.

Send ATEPAA® your drawings or concept and our team can advise on the manufacturing approach.
